Kamloops, BC – August 14, 2019 - The Canadian Home Builders Association Central Interior proudly celebrates the 30th anniversary of their Training House partnership with Thompson Rivers University.

“It is an exciting day for both our association and the University as we celebrate 30 years of partnership and providing residential construction and trades students in the region with incredible hands-on training opportunities” says Jere Lorenz VP of CHBA Central Interior and VP of Orchards Walk Development Inc.

The thirty-year partnership began with a vision to provide students with a more practical way to apply their learning. It quickly evolved into including a mentorship aspect that included professionals from within the field working alongside students to provide on-site education and practical opportunities to apply techniques learned in a real-life environment.

“This is the longest standing public/private partnership of its kind across the country and we are proud of all it has provided for our local students, residential construction companies and community as a whole over the years” says Jere Lorenz, VP of CHBA Central Interior

Since the program’s inception, over 300 students have taken part and graduated to move on into residential construction careers of their own. Many of which, have decided to remain within the local region to work for local contractors or suppliers and even open their own business.

“It is very humbling to witness the full-circle effect this program has had upon our community. We continually see students coming through our doors after graduation or after successfully starting a company of their own, looking to join the association to find ways to give back to the program that gave them an advantageous career start” says Jere Lorenz, VP of CHBA Central Interior

The 30th Anniversary Training House project is being built at 160-200 Grand Boulevard in Orchards Walk.
